Miss Jay is Back to Blogging

A year and a half ago, I took a break from writing this Blog to concentrate on other ventures that needed a lot of attention, and hence time for writing all this was limited. I have been working on a lot of Fashion Shows, styling Backstage and doing choreography for the Models, Styling for TV and everything else Fashion.
Seeing that my life revolves around Fashion and working around Fashionistas, I have therefore decided to embark on this journey that I started with Yall 2 and a half years ago.
My everyday pieces will go back to being posted and we can all have a Jolly Good time looking and discussing Fashion.

Step up the retro back-to-nature mood with shoes that boast a chunky wooden heel.

Designer Julia Vallelunga was inspired by ancient tribal jewellery for her new Nomad collection. I love her use of raw, hand-dyed Indian silk and vintage chains from the 1970s. I think this looks Amazing!!!!

2011 COLOURS AND COMEBACK TRENDS

Shades of Orange give a very vibrant, bubbly look.
If the head-to-toe look is too bold, introduce orange as a lush accent via bags, shoes and shades.or you could tame it by using a use a contrasting rich color to temper the shade or even trying  a touch of turquoise, a dash of hot-pink or a flash of glossy gold.

Also huge this year and especially in the summer is alot of colors worn in clashing blocks. Making  color blocking very  HUGE.

The easy take on this trend is to pair brights with black or contrast shades of one color.

You can also break the traditional color wheel by doing  blue plus green and red plus pink are desirable combinations.
Belts and skinny belts at that are the in accessory to enhance all your fab outfits.

Doubled them up and sling them low on hips to complete Fabulous look.

Kitten heels are cute I think.

The skinnies for men have a competitor in the Flair or Bell bottom as some might call it. Believe it or not they back and big they are!!!

This shoe still reminds me of my Grand Ma and Mum when I look at it. Fashionistas the world over say it's Back in 2011...OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Holiday Season is Here. What to Wear And What Not To!!!

1)      DO experiment with different shades of red, there’s one that works for every skin tone.

DON’T pair a red dress with red shoes, a red bag or other red accessories. All that together? It instantly says, “Santa’s helper or where did you leave the Elves???

Do try off shades like deeper gunmetal gray, or a subtle bronze. The shiniest golds and silvers are only for the bravest and I mean the bravest.

DON’T be afraid to mix in neutral accessories and non-metallic pieces, too. That’s chick!!

DO try sequin pieces like long-sleeved tees and tanks, which feel glamorous and relaxed, it's the new casual way.
DON’T forget to balance the look with matte fabrics so you don’t go blinding people.

Do bust out those super-short hemlines but counterbalance the bare legs with a covered- on-top look.

DON’T be bare everywhere…you get the point?

Slip into ankle booties as a new take on evening shoes. Choose a stiletto-heeled style. It gives a tougher edge to romantic holiday dresses and is a nice departure from your usual pumps or party sandals.

DON’T layer on colured tights with these. One statement accessory is enough.

Animal Print Style Tip: DO try a bold combination and don’t get too sexy by mixing satin with prints and showing off the cleavage. If you do jeans with a print jacket try a blue shade and not washed out jeans. Another thing don’t go head to toe with your prints can be a little dizzying.

Gwen Stefani goes African

Singer/ designer Gwen Stefani attended Sephora's Fashion's Night Out event wearing a beautiful African print dress. Previously we've heard of or seen celebrities rocking African prints but Gwen's was absolutely fabulous.

My bone of contention here is, the fact that we did not know who designed that particular dress. At first it was thought to have been done by Christie Brown, but it turned out it wasnt. All the sources are saying it was "African Inspired" Can somebody tell me what that means?? I then found out it was actually her own Spring 20111 L.A.M.B collection. I love Gwen so much but I'm so tired of  Non- Africans taking our creations and so profiting from them. The fabric Gwen used is what they call Ankara and can be gotten from Lagos. I would have much rather had seen an African name on that design. In recent times labels like Jewel by Lisa, Lanra DaSilva to name a few have reworked ankara, making them more wearable and contemporary.
For Tailors in Lagos and even here in Kenya that have worked on African Prints Like Ki2 Fashions, they have such affordable stuff, African fashion is finally getting some shine but I’d have preferred if it was the actual African ankara masters or the K12's who were getting the recognition. Here's more of that collection:

The pants and Jacket bit tho' was a NO NO for me. I know mix and matching is in for next season but not on Prints. What do you think?

Oversized Chunky Sweater

This season get the slim fitting sweater and push it to the back of your closet because chunky is back.
Hitting anywhere from below the hip to knee-length, the chunky oversized sweater is the perfect cozy option for milder days; it is also perfect for indoor offices that are too chilly to go sweaterless.
Now when you wear it make sure to wear it with slim fitting pants like skinnies and for a more slimming figure make sure to wear a top that's the same colour as the cardigan inside. You can also accesorise it with big chunky necklaces or a layer of necklaces for a more couture look.
